Details : In 1904, seniors at Purdue University began the tradition of wearing yellow corduroy pants or “whistlers”. In later decades, the tradition evolved into elaborately decorating the pants with drawings and symbols that represented aspects of the wearer’s lives and interests. According to Purdue records, the tradition continued into the early 1970s. Recently, up-and-coming menswear brand Bode, known for its use of upcycled textiles, vintage fabrics, and storytelling, resurrected senior cords with its Senior Cord Project, which allows customers to order their own customized pants with personalized illustrations. A pure piece of Americana, this 1966 pair features pin-up art and references to Playboy magazine, Colt 45, and The Peace Corps.
